About Us
Founded in 2016, the John Muir Charter Schools (JMCS) Foundation is a distinct 501(c)(3) public benefit corporation dedicated to supporting a mission and goals to further the educational success of current and former students of JMCS. All funds raised by the JMCS Foundation are dedicated to JMCS graduates (scholarships) and all teachers (grants) within the JMCS service area.
JMCS is a WASC accredited high school that specializes in serving the educational needs of young men and women between the ages of 16 and 25, in partnership with the CA Conservation Corps, Local Conservation Corps, YouthBuild and Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act programs; 35 separate program sites throughout the state of California.
Students We Serve
100% of JMCS students are former high school dropouts; each one having attended an average of two schools before JMCS. 96% of our students are either low-income, homeless, foster youth or some combination of the three. This young adult population enters JMCS programs with many challenges and barriers. JMCS staff work to support each student's individual needs by addressing academic, vocational and social-emotional development through a personalized approach.
